5 out of 5 stars Excellent Experience   August 31, 2010

I purchased a Honeywell 17000 Air Purifier from a huge retail home products store for my son's dorm room. The box had been sealed but when I opened it the item had obviously been used and returned since the filter was soiled. I ordered on line and purchased the same item for less money and free shipping. The box was in pristine condition and clearly never opened. The air purifier inside was sealed in plastic for cleanliness. I was extraordinarily pleased with this purchase and the item works perfectly for removing dust, odors and air-borne viruses from the dorm room.

4 out of 5 stars Very effective filter, but not very good at circulating air....   August 23, 2010

I purchased this filter along with the Honeywell HEPA Air Purifier 50250 to improve the overall air quality in my condo. I currently live near a rock quarry so everytime I open a window, the immediate area around the windows gets coated in a fine patina of gritty dust. This started to affect my sleep so I decided to get these two filters to see if they made a difference.

I can safely say that they do make quite a difference indeed! The 50250 filter is in the living room, (due to it's larger size and larger noise emmissions) and this one found its home inside my bedroom. It does a very good job of cleaning the air inside my room and my sleep has improved noticeably after just a couple weeks of use.

The unit does have a few downsides however that do detract from a 5-star review.

1st, the high setting is really too noisy to be used at all unless you're outside of the room. It's kind of a misnomer in that sense since the unit is labeled a "Quietcare" unit, at maximum setting, it pretty much is a miniature leafblower inside the room.

2nd, the air filter doesn't really "circulate" the air all that well. It sucks in air near the base of the unit and sort of "shoots" it straight upwards at the top of the unit. This pretty much means you'll have to pair it with an oscillating standing/tower fan to really make sure it circulates the freshly cleaned air throughout the room. Also, given the size of the unit, it really should be only used in small rooms or rooms paired with another oscillating fan.

Other than these two minor quibbles, it really does a fantastic job. I've only had it a hair under two weeks, but already I'm noticing a marked improvement to the air quality in my bedroom and condo. A great product all around.

5 out of 5 stars perfect   August 22, 2010

After intense product research and comparison, the Honeywell 17000 was the air purifier I decided on. The goal was simply to freshen my apartment and keep the air a little cleaner and healthier, and it has done just that. Whether placebo effect or not, I do believe that there is a slight difference in air quality. Where before I would be sitting at the computer and my eyes would dry out, that is no longer the case.

There is a permanent, high quality, vacuum-able Pure HEPA filter surrounded by a pre-filter for dust and such. The pre-filter can also be vacuumed a few times before having to be disposed of, so I have found the upkeep cost to be exceedingly low. The electricity usage is marginal, and sound level quite low.

After researching and comparing for days, the Honeywell 17000 was my ultimate choice and I have not been disappointed. I can personally recommend this air purifier for any application. A+ buy

4 out of 5 stars great price and I have 4   July 31, 2010
Happy Mom (Tampa, FL)
I have 4 of these puppies and plan on getting at least 2 more. My daughter has a lot of allergies and i noticed a big difference in the quality of air when we use it. Which is 24/7 on hi. I could spend 400 on one a bit better or buy four of these so I did that. We have had one for about a year so then bought 2 more. After we got that one a friend gave us theirs so now we have 4 of these running on hi at all times. The noise doesn't bother me anymore and we actually like it so we can sleep and not hear the cars driving by or the cats fighting outside :) My daughter doesn't touch it and I clean them every 4 months. The dust and crap I find on it makes me glad I have on in almost every room of our 4 bedroom house.

I totally recommend this to people. It could be better if the other filter quality was better, total charcoal and not just a dusting of it. But I could also just buy a different brand of filters but that is what the company recommends so that is why it's a 4.
